Zim (NuNu)
Abby G. Mitchell is a stained glass artist. In 2018, she named her studio after her beloved dog Zim, who died in 2014. One of her silly names for him was “nunu baby”, so when she built her studio. It only seemed natural to honor him. She is a native Ohioan who currently lives in Lenoir, North Carolina with her husband Spencer, and two golden retrievers, Sigmund and Leonard.
She has been involved in music and art from a young age. She graduated from Kent State University and is currently a full-time privacy and security compliance professional who helps small healthcare providers. She built her own home studio says that it would make a great full-time workplace as well!
She’s thought about being a glass artist since she was young because she’s always been mesmerized by the beauty of glass. She has always collected glass beads and glass mini sculptures.
She has found her true inspiration in stained glass artwork. She uses the copper-foil and solder technique for most of her pieces, which is the style made famous by Louis Comfort Tiffany. However, soon she will attend a 2-day workshop taught by a stained glass craftsman with over 40 years of experience to learn the traditional leaded glass technique. This is the technique that is used in larger stained glass pieces and windows that are installed in houses and places of worship. Abby is elated to have the opportunity to take her skills and creativity to the next level.
